Solomon's Children is a UK-based charity that supports the education of disadvantaged young people in Uganda through sponsoring individual students and fostering school partnerships. We work with teachers and volunteers in Uganda to select young people on the basis of their academic record and past progress at school, their financial need and the inability of their family or relatives to provide support.

Founded in 2003, Solomon's Children is non-denominational, and most of the students it supports are studying in secondary schools near Kampala or in the South West. School fees vary from 60 to 90 a term, depending on their quality and facilities, and we expect the students to find matched funding in order to meet the overall costs. The schools are chosen according to the location of the young people's family and relatives and to ensure continuity in the young person's school career.

In the UK, the charity works with teachers at two UK secondary schools: William Morris Sixth Form in Hammersmith, and the Warriner School in Oxfordshire. Both schools have a partnership with Kigezi High School in Kabale, South West Uganda, sponsor individual students, and fund a range of local community-building initiatives. In Uganda, we also rely on the expertise of Gertrude Atukunda, one of our Ugandan collaborators, and her work in selecting, monitoring and mentoring many of the students we support.

A number of new trustees have been appointed to the board, including the ex-Principal of William Morris, Liz Walton, as Chair of Trustees, and Tony Ward as Treasurer. Other new trustees include Steve Puttick, Raj Poonia, Matthew Jenkins and Helen Mooney. Richard Vokes and David Mills continue as trustees.
