Irene was nominated to Solomon's Children in 2003 following the death of her father who had previously been supporting her. Prior to his death, her father had struggled to send Irene to Merryland High School in Entebbe, one of the best secondary schools in the country. She remembers his sacrifice: "I am really thankful to God for what our father did for us during his life-time on Earth and I will always be proud of him even though he is no more".
However, following her father's death, Irene's family could no longer afford her fees, and she was eventually forced to give up her education completely. In 2003, Solomon's Children was able to reinstate Irene at Merryland for the remainder of her A Level course. Later that year, she successfully passed 5 A Levels, and is now proceeding to Makerere University. She recently wrote to inform us that: "with the help of His loving and caring children in the UK, I am confident that my future is not doomed. May the good Lord bless all of you in the UK for the struggles that you are making to help me. Thank you so much". |
